SUE ROWE – Owner

Sue Rowe has been acting for 20 years from Los Angeles to Boston. She grew up in Kaysville, Utah where she started her acting career on stage with the Children’s Theater department at Davis High School. When she graduated, she moved to Boston, MA., and fell in love with film acting. She has been involved in numerous film productions behind the camera and in front. In 2006 she began writing, producing and directing films. Her short filmBlutiful, she produced and acted in, won “Best Film” at theGloria Film Festival 2008. She is currently in pre-production for a web series, several short films and a feature film.Sue founded Utah Filmmakers, a non-profit networking group that introduces local producers, writers, directors, actors and crew members to one another, and helps interested individuals get involved in the Utah film industry. ROBERT ANDRUS – Audition Tec/Acting Instructor

Robert started in the entertainment industry as an Actor over 15 years ago. He has since been a very successful producer with his films being picked up and sold by major production companies. He has recently took on the name of CASTING ASSOCIATE for the top casting company in Utah, Jeff Johnson’s Casting. His goal is to help train Utah Actors so when SAG or Independent films cast from UTAH, we have professional trained PROs ready to be CAST in these productions. He wants nothing more than for his students and Utah to succeed. Robert has loved film from his youth. He quotes ” Television and film ignited my imagination as a child. I loved the story telling and the vicarious escapism. I found myself wishing to be in those worlds, then I discovered I could be. CATHLEEN MASON – Acting

In 2011 Cathleen wrapped a Los Angeles based feature film “Hotel Arthritis.” She shares the screen with such well-known actors as: Lee Meriwether (Cat Woman from the original “Batman” series), Dawn Wells (Mary Ann in “Gilligan’s Island”), David Proval “The Sopranos”, Takayo Fischer “Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End”, Martin Kove “The Karate Kid”, Jerry Douglas “The Young and the Restless”, Robert Towers (Benjamin Button in“The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”), John Tartaglia “Avenue Q”, Camille Saviola “Adams Family Values”.She has also worked with famous actors in “Absence of the Good” with Steven Baldwin, “Brigham City” with Wilford Brimley, “The Wayshower” with Eric Roberts and “Blood Fare” with Gil Gerard of the famed “Buck Roger in the 25th Century”.Cathleen landed one out of four women speaking parts in “The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints” (LDS) worldwide casting of the “New Testament Series” Project. At age 54 she graces the screen as the 82 year old Anna the Prophetess. She also landed one out of four women speaking parts in the first Brigham Young University’s feature film “Redemption” as the intense, quiet and strong Mrs. Carpenter. Cathleen has a rich, deep, wide natural acting range, can cry on cue and has great comedic timing. Cathleen is easily directed, she also works well on set and with others.Cathleen is well-known as the Relief Society teacher in the 2001 movie “Charly”. You can also see her periodically on KBYU TV in “The Writers Block” series “Another Audience” as the worn out school teacher. Cathleen is also a successful voice over artist.Cathleen has over 18 years of film acting training including two years of the Sanford Meisner Technique. She learned the techniques of Larry Silverberg and studied with him personally. BECKY BROWNING – Acting/Writing Instructor

Becky Browning has been acting since she was a child, debuting with her role as Amaryllis in Music Man when she was ten years old. She has also played Nellie, in Annie get your gun, Tzeitel, in Fiddler on the roof, Laurie, in Oklahoma, Kim, in Bye Bye Birdie, Anne, in Anne of Green Gables, and Cinderella, in Cinderella to list some. She attended BYU Idaho and majored in Interior design. While at BYUI she was in a singing/dancing performing group called Showtime Company that toured the United States and Eastern Canada. After marriage and raising her five children past diapers, she has returned to acting, but this time spreading her wings to the big screen where she has had parts in several short films including, Alienate, Wheel of Time, Jeb Finds God, Fish Free Church, Everyone’s Fine, The Tutor, The Graduate, and numerous commercials, both local and national. In addition to acting, Becky has published two Women’s Fiction novels, The Sand Bar and Far From Perfect. Far From Perfect was a national Women’s Fiction finalist in the National Readers Favorite awards out of Miami Florida. Becky studied under Sue Rowe, Michael Flynn, and Taunya Gren, using the outside in and inside out method. She is also a classically and Belt trained Mezzo Soprano singer.

BOBBY CODY – Acting Instructor

Hailing from Mississippi, Bobby has been an actor, writer, stage manager and director in theatre and film for twenty-one years. He received an international nomination for Best American Director to the Fringe Festival in Edinburgh, Scotland for his work with the Human Rights Education Center of Utah in 2010 and 2011 on his productions of the co-written play All’s Fair… and William Mastrosimone’s Bang, Bang You’re Dead. He received the Best Writer and Audience Choice awards for his short film Hypothesis at the DC Film Challenge 2012 and premiered the film at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival. He recently wrapped production on the feature film The Freemason directed by Sohrab Mirmont, starring Sean Astin of The Lord of the Rings Trilogy. He has worked eight years as the director of the performing arts department for a local charter school and has served as a board member on many of the local theatre companies, since arriving in Salt Lake in 1999. Bobby currently works as an instructor of Japanese art & culture for the University of Utah and as writer, producer and director for his film production company Riøt.

IVAN BIGNEY – Improv Instructor

Musician, Actor, Writer, Jack of all trades. A cultural Explorer, with a passion for human patterns. Ivan is one of the cast member of the hilarious Comedy Sportz troupes in SLC and Idaho. He has been in numerous plays and performs his music all over the SLC valley. He has an extensive knowledge of comedy and is ready to pass on his trick of the trade to local actors who are wanting to break into to the business of Improv acting or just brush up on their skills.

JENNY KROMPEL – Voice Over Instructor

Hailing from San Antonio, Texas, Jenny Krompel has enjoyed success as a voice over artist, actor, and filmmaker. From an early age, Jenny gravitated towards and excelled in various areas of performance art; she landed her first commercial at age 8 for the Girl Scouts of America and filled much of her teen and college years with theatre, dance and classical guitar.In 2008, she started ‘Voice Over Services by Jenny’ and was immediately hired to provide narration services for the first multilingual wine review and wine education blog. Over the years, Jenny’s voice has been heard across the globe in narration, commercial, animation, video game, interactive voice response, on-hold, podcasts, book trailers, PSA’s, industrial, mobile apps, political, e-learning and documentary. Most recently, she has been cast in an upcoming animated series titled ‘The B Brothers’ along side many legendary film and voice actors and she is the casting and voice over director for the upcoming MMORPG game tilted ‘Legends of Etherell’.In addition to her voice over work, Jenny proudly serves on the board of directors (Director of Resources) for the non-profit Utah Women in Film. LUCAS H. PROCTOR – Vocal Instructor

Born a performer, Lucas has been stealing hearts since he was a small boy. During high school, Lucas became immersed in musical theatre and enjoyed building his confidence in a thriving program. Lucas received a scholarship in theatre performance to Ricks College. After returning from a mission to the Philippines, he studied musical theatre and vocal performance while being involved in various choral, individual singing, and theatre productions at BYU-Idaho. Lucas has continued to expand his repertoire by being involved in community and college plays after graduation.Lucas has enjoyed reading out loud, doing impressions, and making up silly voices since he was very young, and has expanded these talents into the Voice Acting industry. ROBIN BEATTY – Film/Theater Acting Instructor

Robin studied at Dixie State and Southern Utah University under Richard Bug, Russ Benton, and Fred Adams, among others. Besides acting Robin has worked on stage production and behind the scenes learning both ends of the spectrum to be more well rounded and proficient in her abilities as a coach. Robin has a strong love for both Film and Theater Acting and as of recently is breaking into filmmaking and screenwriting. Some of her favorite Film and Theatrical roles include: Debbie in Rapid Fire, Babe in Crimes of the Heart, Bertha Mason in Jane Eyre: the Musicaland Tillie in The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds.

SHAWN STAFFORD  

Weapons and Tactics for Film 

SHAWN STAFFORD has worked for more than twenty years in the field of Federal Law Enforcement.  He served as a Federal Police Officer for fifteen years and held the position of SWAT Team Operator and Training Instructor.  He managed a quarterly firearms training program for more than 100 Police Officers and Special Agents and developed and implemented numerous training courses, including one of the nation’s first active shooter response tactics programs which has been provided to hundreds of Law Enforcement Officers throughout the United States. Prior to SHAWN’S Law Enforcement career, he spent many hours in the fields and mountains of the Appalachians, hunting and developing basic marksmanship skills before enjoying success as a competitive shooter throughout his college years.  He continues to compete on a recreational level, provides gunsmithing services, and prefers Cowboy Action Shooting and repairing and shooting the guns of the Old West. Shawn has more recently entered the world of acting and film making through an association with Sue Rowe Studios and has appeared in various Short Films, Commercials and TV Pilots.

SHELLY BRANDON – The foundations of IMPROV 

Shelly Brandon is an acting coach, writer and director. Her background includes a BFA in Theatre and MFA courses at DePaul University’s Theatre School (formerly known as The Goodman School of Drama). She acted in numerous stage productions during and after her college experience and studied improvisation while in Chicago. She took some time out to start a family and then moved to SLC in 2008. She immediately got involved in the film community offering her skills as an acting coach and script analyst. After spending some time in the SLC film community, she decided to direct her first short film which won awards and nominations at several film festivals. She wants to share her knowledge of acting and create a learning environment for actors at all levels to add depth and dimension to their performance.
